Wichita, Kansas is a booming city that is ideal for families, young professionals, and retirees alike. Here is a quick list of Wichita’s popular pros and common cons.

Affordable Cost of Living: Wichita has a lower cost of living compared to the national average. You can also get more house for your dollar here, making it an extremely attractive place for buyers looking for their dream home.

Job Market: Wichita has a solid job market, especially in the aerospace, manufacturing, and healthcare industries. Major companies like Spirit AeroSystems, Textron Aviation, Ascension, and Koch Industries are large employers in the city.

Entertainment and Attractions: Wichita offers a variety of cultural, museum and entertainment opportunities.  Exploration Place, Sedgwick County Zoo and Botanica are amazing activities for families. Wichita also offers a strong theatre and arts presence with Music Theatre of Wichita, traveling broadway performances and the Wichita Symphony to name a few.

Extreme Weather: Wichita is located in what is known as Tornado Alley. Although tornadoes are not a common concern, they do occur in this region of the country each year.

Accessibility: The Wichita metro area is spread out making it necessary for residents to have a car or utilize public transportation to access various areas of the city. Although it does not take a lot of time to travel around Wichita, commutes from one side of the city to the other take between 10 and 25 minutes. Traffic backups are rare in Wichita, but if you choose to live in Wichita, be prepared for drive time.

Travel: Although the Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport provides many daily flight options, Wichita is not a major hub, making the number of daily flights limited. Additionally, direct flights are also at a minimum out of this airport, so be prepared for connections if you are traveling to major tourist destinations.
